On November 19. 1863, Abraham Lincoln went to Gettysburg in Pennsylvania to speak at the National Soldiers Cemetery. The Civil War was still going on. There was much criticism of President, Lincoln at _he time. He was not at all popular. He had been invited to speak at Gettysburg only out of politeness. The principal speaker was to be Edward Eyerett, a famous statesman and speaker of the day. Everett was a handsome man and very popular everywhere.
It is said that Lincoln prepared his speech on the train while going to Gettysburg. Late that night. alone in his hotel room and tired out, he again worked briefly on the speech. The next day Everett spoke first. He spoke for an hour and 57 minutes. flis speech was a perfect example of the rich oratory'
of the day. Then Lincoln rose. The -crowd of 15,000 people at first paid little attention to him. He spoke for only nine minutes. At the end there was little applause. Lincoln turned to a friend and remarked. "1 have failed again. " On the train back to Washington. he said sadly. "That speech was a flat failure. and the people are disappointed. - A painter hangs his or her finished pictures on a wall, and everyone can see it. A composer writes a work, but no one can hear it until it is performed. Professional singers and players have great responsibilities, for the composer is utterly dependent on them. A student of music needs as long and as arduous a training to become a performer as a medical student needs to become a doctor. Most training is concerned with technique, for musicians have to have the muscular proficiency of an athlete or a ballet dancer. Singers practice breathing every day, as their vocal chords would be inadequate without controlled muscular support. String players practice moving the fingers of the left hand up and down, while drawing the bow to and fro with the right arm—two entirely different movements.
Singers and instruments have to be able to get every note perfectly in tune. Pianists are spared this particular anxiety, for the notes are already there, waiting for them, and it is the piano tuner’s responsibility to tune the instrument for them. But they have their own difficulties; the hammers that hit the string have to be coaxed not to sound like percussion, and each overlapping tone has to sound clear.

- 一、题解：
论文必先正名，开始的时候，还是把ＡＤＳＥ这四个罗马字好好解释的好！ＡＤＳＥ，顾名思义，即Absolutely Don't Study English！翻译成中文，作《千万别学英语》解。这个名字确实很蛊惑人，若不是这么一个名字，我想我是很难会在外文书店的书丛中注意到的！更何况还是这种余一向不喜哗众取宠类型之英文读物。 正如ADSE书本封面中文标题下之英文所标示：NOT STUDY，BUT LEARN。此书其中心或说ADSE方法之核心尽在此：不是学习研究，只不过熟练而已！英语之类语言的学习，不应一味研究语法，死攻试题；而应首先从听着手，进而模仿去说，听说无碍之后，再把大量精力花在英英词典上。这样，熟悉了一本地道的英英词典，再去看书阅报DVD，英语最终自然天成！
二、著者、译者背景并ADSE之“五大诀窍”
既然说到这个ADSE，那写她的与把她传到中国来的两个韩人自然不能不提！
这里，下面将依据ADSE五大步骤逐步分析其合理性，其实也就是它征服我原因之所在。究竟是为什么？为什么偏偏是ADSE？但是，这里先照抄一遍ADSE“五大诀窍”：
1、选择一盘适合自己水平的磁带，每天聚精会神地把A面和B面连续听两遍，直到听清磁带中的所有内容。
2、一句一句地听写这盘磁带的内容，之后用英英词典确认不会拼写的单词，再模仿磁带的发音和语调，从头至尾大声朗读，直到所有的句子都能朗朗上口。
3、查英英词典把听写练习中不懂的单词的解释和例句抄录下来，并大声朗读通过查词典整理出来的内容，直到完全吃透这些内容为止。
4、戴上耳机每天听一盘英语原声录音带，并做听写和朗读练习，用英英词典查不懂的单词。
5、大声反复朗读一则英文原版的报纸上的短文章，并把它像讲故事一样流畅地绘声绘色地复述下来。之后再读第二篇、第三篇……
下面即将要具体分析ADSE的五步。但是开始之前，我觉着有些还是要先说出来！这个方法对孩子有难度，对大人也有难度！二者彼此彼此吧，应该说是各有各的难处！但我想只要有信心和毅力应该是不成问题的！这个方法对于那些从未接触过外语的人来说是不适用的！书中也有地方提到过这一点的。我觉着至少应该按照传统模式学上那么一、两年！也就是小学阶段结束再来用。想想吧，若是连罗马字母还不认识，语音一点概念都没有，基本的语法也不知道，那三大步骤根本就没法进行！再说，这个方法是著者根据自己的经验总结出来的，他也是在用传统的方法学过一段之后才转向的！这一点必须要看清楚！再者，对于直接培养孩子，ADSE里面说了一些。总之这本书值得一读，不光是在学习英语的方法上面，在我而言，他使我因上网影响而增长了的一些民族主义情绪着实降了降温！再就是文化上的一些观点等等等等 - 软件语言: 简体中文 ... 软件类型: 完全版 ... 插件情况: 无插件 ... 推荐级别:
